britanica Posted November 20 Posted November 20 So I learned something new today I wanted to share. Apparently when you have nerve issues, back problems, and poor posture... Crawling and fix it. A lot of people are recommending it now as a means of physical therapy because it has show to help people that have had back issues for decades in a short amount of time. I have had neck and shoulder issues for half my life and back trouble since 2016 when I fell down a ladder so I am going to give it a try! 2 Quote

I had my kids walk on my back and that helped. Much later I learned how much a rocking chair helped. A Jefferson rocking chair like the one John F. Kennedy used. 1 Quote
YellowDragon Posted November 21 Posted November 21 Doesn't this have to do with how people used to move? Like before modern times, people crawling, climbed, pushed, pulled, lifted, etc. and always engaged their muscles and nerves in their back and spine but largely since the 20th century, people have become more sedentary. 2 Quote

You crawl before you can stand and then you can walk and run. 2 Quote
Cosmic Posted November 22 Posted November 22 I will have to look into this more. I have had posture issues since my teen years. I was told by a few doctors I need physical therapy to correct it and I did so some but never followed up with anything. I know I still have issues as I have neck, shoulder, and back pain. Now I am getting knee pain too. Getting old sucks but it sounds logical that this can help. 2 Quote

YellowDragon Posted November 25 Posted November 25 So I did this and I am shocked. I actually feel like my pain level is less. I didn't have anything very major though but this is pretty interesting stuff. 2 Quote
chrysostom Posted November 26 Posted November 26 Each day when I ache, I try to remember what I did the day before that would have caused it. Now that I am old I realize that my aches are due to doing nothing at all. 1 Quote

My uncle told me years ago to "move it or lose it" and that "the body is a well oiled machine but only if you drink plenty of water and keep it moving". I think this is why as we age, we end up with pain and trouble moving. We stopped moving like we did when we were kids. 1 Quote

He would say, "moderation is all things including moderation". Thank God for uncles you can talk to. 1 1 Quote
JRexx Posted November 27 Posted November 27 I looked this up and apparently it was a trend that started almost 10 years ago. But this is the first I am hearing of it. I didn't hear about the studies or people highlighting the benefits either. Funny how something that helps people but can't be profited on gets buried. 1 Quote

I think a lot of stuff we once knew is getting recycled and spread again because of the internet. Like I have one of those old health remedy books from the '70s and some of the stuff people only "discovered" in the last 10 years was already in that book lol 1 Quote
